What’s On My Plate?

Guess who forgot to take a picture at dinner tonight?
I just can’t seem to get the hang of Wednesday Night Suppers and taking pictures.

I love getting to be in community with our church family but it is a high stress meal and I easily get out of my routine. I did have several ladies who I go to Weight Watchers with ask what I was eating. I love the accountability! I made really good choices with lots of veggies.

Now if I could just get them to follow me home and keep me accountable when it is just me and my shaky self-discipline to make it through the evening.

I Will Order The Salad

If you are not involved in a church community or one that has a traditional Wednesday Night dinner you are missing out. Someone cooks for you, someone washes the dishes for you, and someone entertains/educates your kids. A win-win.

As both someone who is trying to lose weight and who is the PW, preacher’s wife (or PS, preacher’s spouse,  for my brothers in arms), church eating can be a bit daunting. My church has a healthy plate option that consists of a chefs salad. I should get this but you have to specially sign up for it using a tear out in the bulletin. I don’t usually get a bulletin on Sunday mornings because I am already in our worship space when the greeters are handing them out. I know excuses–it’s not like my husband doesn’t work about 50 feet from the dear lady who handles the reservations. Maybe next week.

The reason I want to order the salad is not because I really like chef salads, because I don’t- I know it has eggs on it but I don’t really like the meat or cheese. Salads are much easier to calculate the point for than the regular meal because I have not idea how the meal was prepared. It is really just a shot in the dark to calculate the points.

For example, see my plate below? The mashed potatoes. I am guessing they are from potato flakes. Now, did our hostess use  whole milk or skim? How much butter? Do the beans have butter on them? They didn’t taste like it? etc, etc, etc. All I know is it is yummy and I usually eat it all so I have to figure out how to count the points. I use my etools and do my best.

Wednesday Night Supper:

Green beans~0 points plus, mashed potatoes (I calculated these a made from flakes with whole milk and butter added)~5 points, 3 oz of baked chicken without skin or bone ~3 points, 1/4 cup of chicken gravy~1 point plus, one slice of french bread~1 point (seems low but that is what my tracker said), and a small bowl of salad~2 points. I got another bowl of salad for dessert~2 points.

14 points total. I had that many to use on this meal but it seems like a lot of points.

I will order a salad next week.

Time to get my couponing on. Got to get my meal plan ready, my shopping list printed, and my coupons printed or clipped. Time to save some money!

Half Marathon Day

Wednesday is a full day in our household. In running terms Sundays are marathons for ministry families.  Wednesday are a half marathons.

I work at the Preschool on Wednesday mornings. Kevin and I lead a Disciple II bible studies from 4-5:30 on Wednesday afternoon. CB has children’s program from 4:45-5:45. From 5:45-6:30 we all ‘eat’ at Wednesday Night Supper. Really it is just shoving in bites as people walk up and want to chat and ask questions. Between spilled drinks, trips back and forth for each extra thing we need, and wrangling with the girls I feel like I walk about a mile during that meal.

Tonight we had spaghetti ~11 points plus.  There were a lot of trips for napkins. I got so focused on ‘public eating with the kids‘  that I forgot to snap a photo. I also had a small side salad~3 points plus.

Then, off to choir for the kids.

During that hour is when I have the only free hour I have during the whole day.  When it was bright outside in the evenings I would run through the neighborhoods around the church. I found a favorite 3 mile loop. A hilly, hard but engaging just over three-mile loop. Now it is dark. For awhile I gave into the darkness saying to myself, “It is too dark to run.  There are no sidewalks.”

Tonight I was determined. I sneaked into the CEC (our Christian Enrichment Center ie gym) that is closed on Wednesday nights because they use it for youth. It helps to be tight with the youth pastor…

Treadmill

I did the 5k run setting. It was not my favorite running experience but I fit it in. Check.

Once home the nightly Everest like climb to get the girls hydrated, cleaned, brushed, pajamaed (yes, I just made up that word), read to, pray for and in bed almost did me in. But, then I saw this sitting in our stack of mail from today…

Guess what I will be doing until bedtime tonight…which will probably be in about 10 minutes.

I earned 9 activity points today. Score. I think I am liking my ActiveLink.
